Richard
N. Sherman, M.D. has been in practice since 1992,
and opened his current uptown office - The Skin Institute of New Orleans in January 2006. Dr. Sherman provides general, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services for adults and children. His training at Tulane University School of Medicine/Dermatology Residency, current participation in resident education, and continued medical and surgical education provide a strong foundation for his surgical and cosmetic practice.
Originally
from Clarksdale, Mississippi, Dr. Sherman graduated salutatorian
in 1977 from Clarksdale High School. He attended the
University of Mississippi and graduated summa cum
laude and as a member of the honor society, Phi Kappa
Phi, with a B.A. degree in Zoology. His doctorate
of medicine is from Tulane University School of Medicine,
where he graduated as a member of the medical honor
society, Alpha Omega Alpha, in 1988. His internship
and residency in dermatology were completed at Tulane
and Charity Hospital in 1992. Dr. Sherman served as
Chief Dermatology resident from 1991-1992. Dr. Sherman
was an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Tulane
and Director of the HIV Dermatology Clinic at the
Louisiana Health Care Authority Medical Center of
New Orleans from 1993-1995. He served as Department
Head/Dermatology Division at Oschner Hospital of Baton
Rouge from 1995-1997. Dr. Sherman remains an active
member of the Tulane Department of Dermatology's clinical
faculty, as a Clinical Associate Professor.
Since
1992, Dr. Sherman has been a board certified fellow
of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is an active
member of the Louisiana Dermatological Society and
supporter of the Dermatology Foundation.
Dr. Sherman's expertise and publications
in the use and treatment with cosmetic fillers and
procedures, such as volume restoration for the aging
face, have earned him a national reputation as a speaker
and trainer on cosmetic injectibles. Dr. Sherman's
practice also includes Skin Savvy, Inc., for the treatment
and education of patients interested in healthy skin
